Sunscreens’ UV Filters Risk for Coastal Marine Environment Biodiversity: A Review

چکیده

Considering the rapid growth of tourism in recent years and acknowledgement that exposure to solar UV radiation may cause skin cancer, sunscreens have been widely used by beachgoers decades. filters contained sunscreens, however, were recently identified as emerging pollutants coastal waters since they accumulate marine environment with different adverse effects. In fact, these components was proven be toxic most invertebrate vertebrate species. Some are linked production significant amounts reactive oxygen species (ROS), such hydrogen peroxide, release inorganic micronutrients alter status habitats. Bioaccumulation biomagnification not yet fully addressed. This review highlights progress research provides a comprehensive overview toxicological ecotoxicological effects both on abiotic biotic compartments types areas, gain better understanding impacts biodiversity.

Coastal and marine biodiversity of India

This paper summarizes what is known of the coastal and marine biodiversity of the Indian seas and their various ecosystems, from past literature, museum records and other lesser-known sources of information. The synthesis suggests that the number of species known could be of the order 13,000 or higher. However, the inventory is very detailed only in the case of commercially important groups suc...

Enhanced UV radiation – a new problem for the marine environment

UV irradiance at the earth’s surface is intimately related to stratospheric ozone. This gas tends to be concentrated in the lower stratosphere (hence the notion of an ozone layer) and is primarily responsible for the absorption of solar UV radiation (UVR). UVR has been recognised for many years (e.g. Worrest, Dyke & Thomson, 1978; Worrest et al., 1981; Calkins, 1982) as a potential stress for o...

Occurrence and Concentrations of Persistent Personal Care Products, Organic UV Filters, in the Marine Environment

The benzotrialzol organic UV filters, such as UV-320 (CAS# 384671-7), UV-326 (CAS# 3896-11-5), UV-327 (CAS# 3864-99-1), and UV-328 (CAS# 25973-55-1), were detected in marine organisms collected from the Ariake Sea, western Japan. The high concentrations of UV filters were found in oysters and tidal flat species, at the concentrations of several ten ng/g (wet wt. basis). It is interesting to kno...

Stability Study of Sunscreens with Free and Encapsulated UV Filters Contained in Plastic Packaging

Sunscreens play a fundamental role in skin cancer prevention and in protection against photo-aging. UV filters are often photo-unstable, especially in relation to their vehicles and, being lipophilic substances, they are able to interact with plastic packaging. Finally, UV filter stability can be significantly affected by the routine use of the product at high temperatures. This work aims to st...

Exploiting biodiversity in the marine environment: a personal perspective

A few years ago, I had the opportunity to visit Tribhuvan University, outside Katmandu. I had been invited to visit the Department of Chemistry, and to talk with some of the scientists about potential biotechnological development. During the course of my visit, I was taken to visit a laboratory housed in a small building at the edge of a forest. The building had two entrances, one of which was ...
